Course content
Security Studies and Conflict Resolution as sub-fields in International Relations Basic terms of the security analysis - the development of the concept of security, basic terms (threat, risk, peace) The concept of conflict, types of conflicts in IR, causes of conflicts, new forms of combat, conflict cycle (phases of conflict) The development of international security environment in the 20th and 21st centuries Instruments of conflict resolution, game theories as an instrument of conflict resolution, conflict prevention (early warning system and disarmament mechanisms), post-conflict reconstruction and state building United Nations and its role in maintaining international security and in conflict resolution - instruments of conflict resolution according to the UN Charter and specific examples Role of regional security organizations in conflict resolution (NATO, EU, OAS, ECOWAS, ASEAN, GCC etc.)
