Course content
1. Essential concepts of international relations. State as an actors of IR, integration and desintegration, interdependence. Types, roles and importance of international organisations 2. League of Nations and UN as anticipators of world cooperation 3. OSCE, Council of Europe, OECD, Visegrád Group 4. Origin and development of European integration, theories of integration 5. Origin and development of EU - pillars and law, EU expansion 6. EU institutions, EP, EU Committees, ECB 7. European Commission, Council of EU 8. 1st pillar - common policies (monetary union, common agriculural policy) 9. 2nd pillar - common foreign and security policy, relationship with NATO 10. The Czech Republic and its role in regional institutions

learning outcomes
After passing the course, students will be able to define international institutions and organisations, and to differentiate among organisations and regimes. Students will be able to classify organisations according to various types of crieteria and to summarize and identify historical roots and causes of European integration. They will be able to classify, name and describe regional European organisations and organisations with global impact (EU, League of Nations and UN, NATO, Council of Europe, OSCE, Council of the Baltic Sea States, ZEU, EFTA, CEFTA, CEI, Benelux, V4).
