Course content
|
1. Conceptualization of international and regional security 1 - security, threat, risk, referent object, securitization, neutrality, collective defence, collective security, etc. 2. Conceptualization of international and regional security 2 - definition and classification of wars and armed conflicts (modern wars, postmodern wars, asymmetric conflicts, civil wars, terrorism etc.) 3. Theoretical approaches to security, threats and conflicts 4. Military security - military threats, revolution in military affairs and its impact on the transformation of military security, privatization of security, weapons of mass destruction and the threats they present 5. Energy security - strategic resources, allocation of resources, risks of energy dependence 6. Human security - security-development nexus, its interpretation and impact on security policies 7. Weak, failing, failed and rogue states and security issues related to state failure/weakness 8. Conflict theory and conflict cycle - theoretical approaches explaining causes of wars and armed conflicts, course and dynamics of conflicts 9. Contemporary international and regional security and conflict resolution instruments - peace instruments, use of force, preventive diplomacy, peacekeeping, post.conflict reconstruction, humanitarian intervention, disarmament and arms control etc. 10. Contemporary actors of international and regional security and conflict resolution - states, the United Nations, non-governmental organizations etc. 11. Regional security 1 - regional security dynamics, regional security complexes, zones of peace and zones of war 12. Regional security 2 - role of regional powers, regional regimes and organizations in the resolution of local conflicts and in securing regional stability 13. Current questions of international and regional security - transformation of conflicts, non.military threats, growth of non-state armed groups' activities
