1. Political geography as a part of political science, methods, political map. 2. Middle East as a specific political-geographic region. 3. The formation of the region's contemporary boundaries - 19th century to c. 1920. 4. The formation of the region's contemporary boundaries - 1920-2000. 5. Geopolitics of the Middle East in relation to US and USSR power ambitions. 6. Geopolitics of the Middle East in relation to Arab states. 7. Geopolitics of the Middle East in relation to non-Arab states. 8. Centre and periphery in the Middle East. 9. Waterways in the Middle East. 10. Geopolitics of water and oil. 11. EU and Turkey. 12. EU and the Mediterranean. 13. Final test.

| Graduates will understand the historical-political formation of the Middle East as a region and they will be able to put its development into global as well as regional context. They will be able to analyse the crucial phenomena of the region, especially the centre-periphery issues, migration,, and the question of water and other natural resources. They will be able to reflect on the most important characteristics of the Middle East and put them into context. |
