Course content
1. What is politics? Historical roots of thinking about politics. 2. Political Science as an independent scientific discipline - historical development. Political Science in the Czech Republic. 3. Political Science in the context of other scientific disciplines. Political Science - Political Thoery - Political Philosophy 4. The State and governance. Sovereignty, nation, supranationality. 5. Constitutionalism. Political order and the law state 6. Power, authority, legitimacy 7. Key concepts of modern politics - democracy, humar rights, liberty, citizenship, equality, justice, tolerance 8. Political economy and the state. Equality, social justice, welfare. Ownership, planning, market. 9. Classical ideologies: conservatism and liberalism. 10. Classical ideologies: anarchism, socialism, nationalism 11. Ideologies of non-democratic political systems: fascism, national socialism, communism, Islamic fundamentalism 12. New ideologies: environmentalism and feminism

Knowledge
Students will get acquainted with basic concepts and terms udes in Political Science. They will make a clear sense of what Political Science is and what are its tasks. Students will be able to describe the development and extablishment of Politics, define the key objects of its interest, name affiliated disciplines and classify the subdisciplines of Political Science. Students will be capable of describing crucial political concepts and ideologies and relate them to political and historical events.
