Course content
Social policy as the research topic within the framework of policy studies and policy research Development of social policy research in social sciences and the state of art in the Czech Republic Social policy domain, social policy functions and terminology Institutionalisation of social policies in the Czech Republic and European Union Policy making in social policy - important actors, tools and aims Practical consequences of particular social policies Legislative policy documents and its reference to social policies Advocacy policy documents and its reference to social policies Welfare state, its functions and critical reflexion

describe the basic concepts associated with the theory and practice of social policy
describe the relationship of social policy to other disciplines
identify the functions of social policy

describe types of social policy and the underlying ideologies
explain the processes of social policy making at different levels of governance
describe and explain the effects of social policy
describe the development and types of welfare state, current welfare state problems and identify causes, consequences and alternative solutions
describe the history of social policy, development and traditions of social policy in the Czech Republic
define the basic sub-policies of current social policy with emphasis on their implementation in the Czech Republic, which are mainly social security policy, unemployment policy, health policy, education policy, housing policy, family policy
Skills
explain the basic concepts and context of social policy
search for knowledge related to social policy theory published in various sources and work critically and creatively with the acquired knowledge
think critically about basic social policy issues
apply the acquired knowledge in social work practice
actively contribute to social policy-making processes, especially at the local level
work with basic legislative norms of individual sub-policies of Czech social policy and apply them in social work practice
