Course content
|
The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with destructive archaeological research and its methods. The course provides an overview of approaches and methods related to destructive field research. The main thematic fields include: legislative context, systems of registration of archaeological sites, definition of destructive field research by excavation (field analysis); preparation of a field project (pre-excavation stage); stratigraphical units and stratigraphical relations, methods of excavation and documentation, types of sites and field situations, evaluation of field research (post-excavation stage), finding report, publication of field research project. In the seminar, students will participate in two-day field training to gain practical knowledge of the techniques of archaeological excavation, identification and description of stratigraphical units and their graphic and basic measuring documentation.
