Course content
Ceramology is a scientific field focused on coplex understanding of pottery in synthesis of the archaeological, ethnological, history of art, historiographic, technological (technology of silicates), natural sciences (geology of the ceramic raw materials) knowledge. This cours is focused on historic pottery production, industrial and special pottery production ( for example archaic female pottery, archaic pottery, privilege specific production - grphite production for warfare purposes, medicine pottery terry sigillata etc.). Special attention is paid to technological understanding of pottery, specific technologies of the raw materials, forming, burning etc. Typological differences and specific kinds of pottery will be discussed as well. The second part of this course us focused on understanding of historic function of pottery. Pottery belongs to the most important sources of the Post-medieval archaeology and ethnology. Find context of pottery is emphasized as well as use of pottery for example in the field during the agricultural year. Questions of cultural contexts, special pottery imports, introduction of foreign technologies and other transgressions will be discussed as well.
