Course content
Lectures are focused on the basic questions of development of structures on the given period in the West Asia (Turkey, Iraq, Arabian Peninsula), North Africa and Europe. Prehistoric and medieval cultures (chronology of Prehistory and Ancient Era, time ? space relations, constructional activities in the Paleolithic and Mesolithic, constructional activities in the Neolithic and younger periods of the European Prehistory, development of the younger periods in Mesopotamia and Egypt). Antique period (pre-Greek period: Cycladic culture, Minoan culture, Trojan culture influence, Helladic culture; Greek Antique period: constructional material and structure, building roles, constructional types, residences; Roman Antique period: constructional material and structure, building roles, constructional types, residences). Byzantine and Islamic architecture (Byzantine architecture and its influence in Europe; Islamic architecture and its development). Early Christian architecture as part of the Roman Antique period.
