Course content
1. Introduction, romantic and evolucionistic paradigms - theory in archaeology, events and structures of development, characteristics of paradigm itself (T. Kuhn, E. Neustupný), main ideas and personalities of the romantic and evolucionistic paradigms (e.g. J. L. Píč, L. I. Červinka; O. Montelius, L. Niederle, J. Paliardi) 2. Cultural-historic paradigm - origins and development, leading personalities of foreign as well as homeland archaeology (Vienna school of cultural history, G. Kossina, J. Kostrzewski, G. V. Childe, A. STocký, J. Schránil, J. Neustupný, J. Böhm, J. Filip), general theory and methodology 3. Processual paradigm - origins and development of the new archaeology, leading personalities (D. L. Clarke, C. Renfrew, L. R. Binford, M. B. Schiffer), theory and methodology, chosen approaches and schools, analytical archaeology (D. L. Clarke), neo-evolucionism (L. White, E. Service, M. H. Fried), l'ecole invisible (O. Soudský), behavioral archaeology (W. Rathje, M. B. Schiffer), processual approach in the Czech archaeology 4. Post-processual paradigm - origins and development, leading personalities (I. Hodder, M. Shanks, Ch. Tilley), theory and methodology, various post-processual approaches (e.g. symbolic archaeology, interpretative archaeology, gender studies), reflection of post-processualism in the Czech archaeology (M. Gojda, M. Kuna, E. Neustupný) 5. Chosen trends in contemporary archaeological theory - cognitive archaeology, (C. Renfrew), artifactual paradigm (E. Neustupný), Theoretical Archaeology Group 6. Development of theoretical thinking in the archaeology of the Middle Ages
