Course content
- Introduction: defining the terms colonialism and postcolonialism; colonialism in historical per-spective - Colonialism and production of knowledge, colonialism and literature, construction of racial cate-gories, colonialism and ethnography - Colonialism and gender, sexuality, social and ethnic inequalities - Nationalism as a reaction on colonialism - Postcolonialism in broader perspective - Modernity, Empire, and culture in postcolonial environment - Globalization and postcolonialism - Future of postcolonial studies

- to have basic knowledge concerning general world history in regard to the history of Empires - to be familiar with social sciences - to identify important concepts and terms of social sciences and humanities - to identify relevant literature
