Course content
1. Definitions of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism from the perspective of key authors. 2. Anti-Judaism in antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the early modern period. The most significant anti-Judaism cases. 3. The birth of anti-Semitism in Germany (Wilhelm Marr), the first three phases of German anti-Semitism. 4. The impact of German anti-Semitism in Austria-Hungary and France. Russian state anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism in Polish and Slovak society. 5. The "golden age" of anti-Semitism in Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (revival of medieval superstitions about ritual murder, emergence of modern anti-Semitic political entities). 6. European social democracy as the most significant anti-anti-Semitic force, the stereotype of Jews as leftists and Bolsheviks. 7. Anti-Semitism during World War I and its repercussions after the creation of nation states. 8. Anti-Semitism in interwar Europe. 9. Anti-Semitism in interwar Czechoslovakia. 10. Nazi anti-Semitism. The Shoah. 11. Anti-Semitism in the Protectorate. 12. Anti-Semitism in Europe after World War II (with special regard to Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union /Soviet anti-Zionism/ and Hungary). Holocaust deniers. 13. Anti-Semitism after the end of the Cold War. Anti-Semitism of the new left. Detecting anti-Semitism today.

- to define and distinguish between the terms anti-Semitism, anti-Judaism and anti-Zionism - to describe the origin of the term "anti-Semitism" and compare the different "types" of anti-Semitism - to identify hidden forms of anti-Jewish ideology - to reflect using anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism as a propaganda weapon in the Middle East conflict.
Skills
- to evaluate the importance of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism and discuss the issue of anti-Semitism in the context of other hateful ideologies, including contemporary manifestations of religious intolerance and xenophobia - to write an academic text, to give a lecture or presentation on the history, forms and manifestations of anti-Semitism, including its current or hidden forms.
