- to describe the history of the Middle East and North Africa from antiquity till the 21st century - to characterize most important monotheisms - to list important personalities of Islamic thoughts in 21st century - to identify related literature

- to interpret all essential terms related to the religion of Islam - to grasp essential development trends in Islamic history - to work individually with the professional literature, to gather information from current information sources and critically interpret them - to use effectively modern information technology - to know available professional literature and can critically evaluate and use it - to use actively English language, spoken and written.

Knowledge
- to explain specific historical epochs and distinguish causes and consequences of colonialism in historical context and wider perspective of social sciences - to describe all important processes related to relation especially Islam and working of Middle Eastern societies - to name important personalities, movements, events, concepts etc. and characterize their meaning and importance - to identify important related works and sources - to know the history of countries of the Arab East and North Africa with an emphasis on the 21st century - to identify specifics of particular countries, their position in the region as well as wider international relations - to identify different methods or approaches for research on contemporary Middle Eastern societies.

- to discuss the newest history of the Middle East and North Africa, to find support in critically and analytically used sources for given opinions or conclusions - to grasp, explain or problematize knowledge about historical trends, transformation processes in Middle Eastern societies after World War II till the present time - to explain and use specific theoretical frameworks for the interpretation of current Middle Eastern social phenomena - to analyze and critically use related sources and expert literature - to argue about given topics in discussion - to compare usefulness or adequacy of different theoretical approaches
