Course content
1) General characteristics of the religions in the ancient Middle East and their comparison with religious systems in other parts of the ancient world 2) Religion of the ancient Iran and its development 3) Pantheon of the ancient Iran: individual deities, their characteristics and ways of the adoration 4) Religious texts from the ancient Iran (Elam, Achaemenid Empire) 5) Religious texts from the ancient Iran (Parthian and Sasanian Empire, Avesta) 6) Religion of the ancient Syria and its development 7) Pantheon of the ancient Syria: individual deities, their characteristics and ways of the adoration 8) Religious texts from the ancient Syria (Ebla and other importnat centres in the 3rd and 2nd millenium BC 9) Religious texts from the ancient Syria (Ugarit and texts from the 1st millenium BC) 10) Religion of the ancient Anatolia and its development 11) Pantheon of the ancient Anatolia: individual deities, their characteristics and ways of the adoration 12) Religious texts from the ancient Anatolia (Hittite empire) 13) Religious texts from the ancient Anatolia (texts from the 1st millenium BC)
