1. Problematics of music perception. General principles of music interpretation. Specifics of music in the comparison with other kinds of art. Key musical concepts, musical means of expression 2.Philosophical approaches to music in the Ancient period - Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle Approaches to music in the Middle Ages - music as the part of quadrivium, St. Augustin. Music in the Middle Ages, polyphony 3) - 4) Music in the Renaissance, Camerata of Firenze; music of the Baroque period, the birth of the Baroque opera (Monteverdi, Gluck) 5) - 6) The change of musical means of expression in the Classicism, the orchestra in the music of classicism; the role of an interpret 7) - 9) Music of Romanticism; new musical forms; national schools; discussions about the form of music (Neo-romanticism and Classical-romantic synthesis); important opera composers 10) - 11) The development of music at the end of the 19th century - late Romanticism; Impressionism 12) - 13) Transformation of musical means of expression in the styles of the 1st half of the 20th cenury; Neo-classicism; jazz influences in classical music
