Course content
Students know and explain legal terminology on the basis of work with authentic professional text. Students will memorize and explain basic legal terminology by working with authentic field-specific texts. Topical areas: Characteristics of legal language European legal system Anglo-American legal system European institutions Human rights Insurance Contracts and their types Labour law

  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 30 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 22 hours per semester
  • Contact hours - 26 hours per semester

Knowledge
to use spoken and written English corresponding to the independent user B2 according to CEFR
to have a good knowledge of current political and legal affairs in the Czech Republic and the EU; English
to have a good knowledge of more advanced grammatical stuctures
to define the fundamental specialist linguistic terminology from the field of morphosyntax
to distinguish adequately between written and spoken formal and informal English
Skills
to carry out the morphosyntactic and stylistic analysis of texts at the fundamental level
to formulate adequately the main ideas of authentic specialized legal texts at the fundametal level
translate correctly selected parts of texts from English into Czech
to summarise the main ideas of listenings during listening comprehension exercises
to take part in discussions adequately
