Course content
Week 1 Introduction to the course, required literature and requirements for credits. Guideline for seminar paper. Translation. Types of translation. Theory of translating. Week 2 Dictionaries Function styles. Academic style. Journalistic style. Adequacy of translation. Traditional translating methods. Week 3 Translation of journalistic text from the field of international relationships, from Russian into Czech. Equivalency ? direct, contextual, functional. Week 4 Translation of journalistic text from the field of international relationships, from Russian into Czech. Lexical transformation. Transliteration and transcription. Week 5 Russian-Czech translation of economic text. General and specific features of academic style. Lexical-semantic replacements. Week 6 Czech-Russian translation of economic text. Problems of translation of specialised text. Differences between both languages. Grammar transformations. Week 7 Russian-Czech translation of economic text. Replacement of word classes (transposition). Prepositions and their collocations. Week 8 Czech-Russian translation of economic text. Compensation. Translation of lexis without its equivalents. Week 9 Translation of a text related to the banking (from Russian into Czech). Multiverbia. Contextual differentiation of synonyms. Week 10 Translation of a text related to the banking (from Czech into Russian). Syntactic compression. Week 11 Translation of a text related to the insurance system (from Russian into Czech). Explicitness of Russian collocations. Week 12 Translation of a text related to the insurance system (from Czech into Russian). Stylistic norm and translation. Time expressions. Week 13 Translation of a text related to entrepreneurship (Russian/Czech, Czech/Russian). Word order transformations. Interference.

to describe the morphological system of Russian and Czech language
to describe the structure of the Russian sentence and to interpret it with a Czech sentence
to have a basic awareness of the differences in functional styles
to characterize ways of enriching vocabulary
to orientate in basic lexicographical manuals of one- and bilingual (German, Czech-German)
Skills
to communicate in Russian at B2/C1 level
to correctly report the communication of written (authentic and didactized) texts in Russian and the important information they provide
to understand the longer continuous written authentic text in Russian and to create a glossary with key terms
to translate sentence sentences from Russian into Czech and vice versa and to apply the knowledge of morphology, syntax, lexicology and stylistics in this process
to communicate in Czech best native speaker level, at a very advanced level according to the SERR (at least B2 / C1 - possibly speaking in native speaker level in Russian)
