Course content
|
Two traditional social theories will be presented, providing a different view of the role of religion in people's lives. One of them (Durkheim) views religion as a source of social solidarity, the other (Weber) as a force shaping worldview and motivating action. Topics: 1 Definition and origin of religion 2 Religion and ethics 3 Myth 4 Religion and corporality 5 Religion and the environment 6 Religion and gender 7 Victim 8 Transition rituals, death and taboo 9 Pilgrimage 10 Magic, witchcraft and the evil eye 11 Shamanism 12 Cargo cults and revitalization movements 13 Secularization, individualization and spirituality
