- Englightenment and romantism. individualism, univerzalism, rationalism, liberalism vs. colectivism, particularism, emotionalism, communitarism. - Nations and nationalism. Historical, social, political and ideological circumstances of origin of modern European nations (E. Gellner, B. Anderson, M. Hroch), question of national myths and history (G. Schöpflin), national languages and traditions (E. Hobsbawm), role of national elites, types of european nationalisms. - Ethnic groups and theories of "ethnicity". Ethno-revival movements of the 60s a 70s., primordial vs. modernist (constructivist, instrumentalist) conceptualizations of the issue of ethnicity (J. Bromlej, F. Barth, Abner Cohen, Anthony D. Cohen, D. Handelman, T. H. Eriksen), examples of ethno-revival movements. - Multuculuturalism and the policy of identities (G. Baumann, T. Turner, M. Wieviorka, B. Barry). Cathegories of identity and its conceptualization in the social sciences. Examples of identitarian movements. - Contemporary religious movements. Religion in the context of contemporary complex societies. Sectarian movements and the so-called "New religious movements". Islam in the western and central Europe.
