Course content
|
1. The beginnings of the Czech-German national conflict. National identities at the time of the revolution and after its defeat. 2. The period of the second national political spring. Attributes, symbols, identities. 3. Czech identity as understood by František Palacký. 4. National and social identity of the workers' movement. 5. Prague as the capital of the Czech lands and the Czech national symbol. National movement in other Czech cities (Pilsen, České Budějovice). 6. The first great national conflict in the Czech lands and its consequences. 7. The borderlands of the Czech lands with a majority German population as a space for national conflict. 8. Specifics of Moravian national identity. 9. National modus vivendi in the 1890s. The "golden age" of Czech anti-Semitism. 10. The transition of society from traditionally elite to plebeian. 11. The emergence of critical Czechism and Czech society. 12. The Czech labour movement. Ethnicity and supra-ethnicity. 13. Mentality of Czech and Czech-German society during the First World War.
