Course content
1. Introduction. 2. Enlightenment and romantism as the ideological roots of contemplation about modern societies. Ideological roots of the debates on ethnicity, "mulitculturality" and multiculturalism. 3. Primordialism, instrumentalism, situationalism, constructivism 4. Theories of ethnicity 5. Spectrum of definitions of the term "multiculturalism". Definition of the terms from the multiculturalist discourse (integratio, segregation, asimilation, identity, community?) and their critical reflection. Multuculturalism as a subject for anthropological studies. 6. Historical, political and soucial circumstances of the origin of multuculturalism 7. Reception of multuculturalism in European countries (GB, France, Germany, Netherlands) 8. Pluralist multiculturalism (komunitarism), Charles Taylor, Michael Sandel, Michael Walzer, Aldasair MacIntyre 9. Liberal multiculturalism; Will Kymlicka, John Rex, Pavel Barša 10. to clarify and critically reflect on the historical-political and social circumstances of the emergence of a multiculturalist movement
to name theorists who dealt with the issue of cultural differentiation of modern societies (or the issue of multiculturalism) and critically evaluate their basic ideas related to the topic
to compare and critically evaluate multiculturalism with alternative worldview concepts such as feminism, liberalism, nationalism, Marxism

from current anthropological positions to critically reflect on forms of media or artistic representation of cultural diversity
to analyze the forms of application of various multiculturalist approaches in the context of the Czech and foreign education system (multicultural education) and in the context of the so-called integration policy in the Czech Republic
to analyze social processes related to the cultural differentiation of contemporary complex societies and present the results not only in the form of professional studies, but also in the form of journalistic genres
to critically reflect on selected concepts of multiculturalism in terms of contemporary anthropological theories of ethnicity, nationalism and culture
