Course content
1. Anthropology and political geography: space, society and politics. 2. Origin of political order: historical-political formation of the current structure of the world. 3. Current international political system: states, weak states, disintegrated states, non-state actors (multinational corporations, etc.). 4. Spatial dimension of political, ethnic and religious conflicts. 5. Anthropological study of political order: the birth of political anthropology as a subdiscipline of social and cultural anthropology. 6. Classical paradigms of political anthropology I: Structurally functionalist paradigm and procedural approach to the study of political systems. 7. Classical paradigms of political anthropology II: Macro approaches to the study of power relations (neo-revolutionary school, political economy, theory of dependence and development). 8. The Twilight of Classical Political Anthropology I: From Colonial Political Anthropology to Postcolonialism. Reasons for abandoning traditional paradigms. Anthropology as a tool of political power. Hegemony, ideology, subalterity. 9. The Twilight of Classical Political Anthropology II: Postcolonialism and Postmodernism. The influence of postmodernism on new anthropological approaches to the study of political, power and power relations. 10. A new approach: Towards interdisciplinarity. Causes and examples of blurring the boundaries between anthropology, political science, sociology and other disciplines. Critical ethnography.
