Course content
1. Historical anthropology. Genesis, development, theoretical background. 2. Resources for the studies of family in the European context with special focus on the Czech republic. 3. Review of the available resources for the historical/anthropological studies of family. 4. Family of the ancient Greece and Rome 5. Pre-Christian Europe. Barbarian tribes in Europe. 6. Christianity and transformation of beliefs on family and kinship in Europe. 7. Family and kinship in the medieval Europe. 8. Reformation. Population of the early medieval period. 9. "European concept of family configuration". Hajnal's line. 10. "Zádruha" (slavaic concept of an extended family), or the so-called "rodiný nedíl" (literally: family non-share) 11. Industrialization as a turning point in the development of the European family. 12. The concept of romantic love. Childhood, maturity, old-age. 13. European family of the 20th century.
