Course content
|
Studies of sport in the anthropological framework and history of the discourse. Cultural approach to the research of sport. Definition of basic terminology. Theoretical and methodological background of the anthropology of sport. History of sport. Traditional vs. modern sport. Sport, leisure and free-time activities in various cultures. Ethnographic examples and their interpretation. Movie projection: Trobriand Cricket (Leach, 1976). Discussion and analysis of the movie. Modern sport - general characteristics. Origin of the concept. Selected topics, related to the modern sport - nationalism and sport, racism and sport. Selected topics, related to the modern sport - sport and violence, sport and gender. Selected topics, related to the modern sport - sport and socialization; sport and development.
