Course content
1.-2. Science, scientific knowledge; theory and empirics, conceptualization and operationalization, problems and hypotheses, features - variables - research questions 3. Investigation of dependencies and connections, causal relationship, control of influence of variables - choice of research arrangement 4. Population, selections, representativeness, 5. Specific ways of organizing research 6. Field data collection and research organization 7.-8. Research preparation, research project 9. Methods and techniques of data collection 10. The process of sociological research 11. Working with data, coding, data preparation, transformation 12. Formulation of tasks for statistical data analysis, data analysis strategy 13. Ethics and professional principles in sociological research

learning outcomes
Students are able to: - specify basic terms and concepts of sociological methodology - specify basic methods of quantitative sociological research - identify advantages and disadvantages of basic quantitative sociological research methods - suggest own research project - write own research proposal, eg. students are able to: - define research questions and hypotheses - give theoretical reasons for their hypotheses - design suitable research instrument - carry out feasibility test of research instrument
