Content: 1. Addiction and mental illness 2. Mental illness, its history, stigma and its implications in mental health care work 3. Phenomenology of mental illness,principles of helping social work in mental health care. 4. Control and help, recovery. Working with hope,empowerment, responsibility, meaningful roles. 5. Forms and types of mental health services, deinstitutionalization, psychiatric reform in the Czech Republic. 6. Specifics of work with selected groups of clients I. 7. Specifics of work with selected groups of clients and clients II. 8. Concepts and context of addiction 9. the system of assistance in the Czech Republic and introduction to the different types of drug users and people at risk of addiction 10. Legislative context of social work with drug users (e.g. UN conventions, EU legislation, Czech laws, health regulations) 11. Interweaving of the social and health components of a given type of service 12. Standards of professional competence for addiction services 13. Specifics of work with drug users, e.g. problems of acute intoxication or withdrawal syndrome
