Course content
|
1. What is social work? (introduction to the study, introduction to the field of study, course objectives and graduation requirements, basic topics of social work) 2. General principles of social work (definition, aim and terminology of social work, social functioning and life situations) 3. Historical development of social work and the beginning of modern social work (the early beginnings of social work from ancient to modern concepts) 4. Small paradigms (typical approaches) of social work (differentiation and examples of typical approaches of social work) 5. Different conceptions of social work (types of social work conceptions, roles of social workers, models of helping, types of approach to practice, categories of helping) 6. Professional client-worker relationship (importance of the relationship in social work, dual relationships and their types, professional relationship and its boundaries) 7. Ethics in social work (the nature of ethics and its importance in social work, characteristics of moral decision-making, values of social work) 8. Human rights (human rights as the interface between law and morality, relationship to responsibilities and duties, nature and historical development of human rights, moral development) 9. Levels of social work competence - micro, meso, macro (definition of the different levels of social work competence and their methods, the relationship between levels, approaches and concepts of social work) 10. The client of social work (the role of the social work client, characteristics of the (involuntary) client, specifics of work with the involuntary client, types of client issues, client participation) 11. Dilemmas of social work (nature of dilemmas, everyday and strategic dilemmas of social workers) 12. Norm and normality (definition of norm, differentiation of different concepts of normality and their relevance for social work) 13. Final reflection (joint recapitulation of the topics covered and final reflection on the training)
