Students will gradually acquire a basic repertoire of vocabulary items and will practise their use in concrete situations. They will also acquire the basic grammatical structures. Topics: témata: Where are you from?; describing people; clothes; holidays; the story behind the photo; One dark October evening - verb phrases; plans and dreams; let us meet again; what is the word? Patente and teenagers; fashion and shopping; lost weekend; no time for anything; superlative cities; How much is too much? Are you a pessimist? I'll never forget you; the meaning of dreaming Pronunciation practice will be aimed at the acquisition of words and phrases in a way intelligible to native speakers. It will be focused predominantly on practical aspects of English speech performance. The students will first familiarize themselves with the system of English phonemes (vowels, diphthongs, consonants) and the most commonly used types of phonetic and phonemic transcription using simplified English sources. Simultaneously, the will acquire the rules and production of English word stress. All the areas of English pronunciation mentioned above are covered and practised against the background of the Czech language. This approach enables the students to analyse and correct the most common mistakes in pronunciation. An additional focus is placed on practising orthography and spelling. The participants will, in a simplified mode, take part in interactions (in pairs or groups). Listening performance will contain expressions that are concerned with the actual participants, their families and close environment. The listening texts will be performed slowly and clearly. The reading texts will also be simple, containing mostly familiar words and simple sentences. The participants will practise writing concise simple texts (e.g. a formal and informal email, photo blog, description of a place they live)
