Course content |
Acquisition of up-to-date knowledge of musical aesthetics or musical semiotics, focusing on the chosen topic of the dissertation. The content of the course is specified each year partly jointly for the whole group of doctoral students and partly individually with regard to the professional focus of specific doctoral students, in agreement with their supervisors. The lecture focuses selectively on the latest findings in musical aesthetics or musical semiotics. The course also includes independent work by students and group discussion of their papers (aesthetic analyses). After completing the course, doctoral students are better oriented in the field of contemporary aesthetics (semiotics) of music and are able to conceptualize from an aesthetic point of view also the music theoretical and music historical context of their topic. They will also become familiar with some of the practical experiences of leading musicologists and musicians.
