Course content
Lecture topics 1. Basic concepts from developmental psychology and the laws of development. Biological and social determination theories. Basic paradigms of the view of the child, his development and upbringing. 2. The early process of human socialization - theory of intersubjectivity, theory of mind, the importance of early social bonding, deprivation and privation, bonding theory, mother's attachment to the child. 3. Factors of socialization - ecological systems theory, sociocultural theory, social-cognitive theory, frustration theory, symbolic interactionism, labeling theory. 4. Personality development - temperament development, theory of psychosexual development, theory of psychosocial development, development of self-awareness and self-concept, moral development. 5. Development of thinking, theory of cognitive development. 6. Development of speech and communication. 7. Developmental characteristics of adolescence and early adulthood. 8. The importance and concept of interpersonal relationships. Altruism, humanity, aggression. Conflict theory. 9. Social groups and their classification, the position of an individual in a small social group. Social norms, social roles and social status. Attitudes and values. 10. Dynamics of social groups - group formation, cohesion, tension. Interpersonal relationships in a group. Conflicts and ways of resolving them. Group leadership styles, the relationship between group and authority. 11. Social communication and its structure. Communication disorders. Strategies and tactics in dealing with people, rules of criticism, assertive communication, basics of transactional analysis for understanding social interactions. 12. Psychology of family, school and work. 13. Psychology of art, mass media and the environment.

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Contact hours - 52 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 28 hours per semester
