|
Course Syllabus 1. Health Psychology - Definition of the concept, the application of psychology in healthcare, mental hygiene 2. The problem of illness, the auto-plastic image of the disease, and the patient's attitude to the disease. 3. Comparison of the psychological situation of a healthy and a sick person. Model situations - attitude to the disease 4. Communication skills in health care - verbal and non-verbal communication in health care practice, principles of communication with patients of different ages (senior, child) 5. Communication in pre-hospital care, specific types of communication - communication with a child, with the handicapped, with a geriatric patient 6. The problem of fear and anxiety - defining basic concepts, primary symptom, physical manifestations, the development of anxiety and fear, psychological approaches, how to deal with a sick person in fear and anxiety 7. The problem of pain - WHO definition, types of pain, its experience, acute pain, chronic pain, pain in children, psychological procedures, approaches to patients 8. Aggressiveness in healthcare practice - negative emotions, working with them 9. Meeting with death, dying, death 10. Difficult life situations. Stress - stages, stressors, coping mechanisms, acute reactions to stress 11. Post-traumatic stress disorder. Frustration, deprivation, conflict 12. Crisis intervention, psychological first aid, supportive conversation, suicide. Exercises: Topics with an emphasis on application to practice: 1. Personality characteristics of a rescuer, professionally qualified competencies, their application in practice - model situations 2. Extraordinary event, prevention of mass panic, phases of a disaster in the community - case studies from practice 3. Communication training between the dispatcher and the caller, between the rescuer and the patient, communication with family members, with a witness to the event - model situations 4. Communication in pre-hospital care, specific types of communication - communication with a child, with a geriatric patient, with handicapped people - examples from practice 5. Burnout syndrome in the rescuer profession. Diagnosis of burnout syndrome - manifestations. How to avoid burnout syndrome. Relaxation - practical instructions
