Course content
1. Introduction to material exploration in relation to contemporary art 2. Causes and consequences of transformation of art techniques in the art of the 20th and the 21st centuries 3. Specifics of traditional and non-traditional means of expression in the art of the 20th and 21st centuries 4. Importance and the role of the exploration of art techniques in the art of the 20th and 21st centuries 5. Concept of experimental drawing and painting in contemporary art 6. Material exploration in relation to contemporary art 7. Material properties as a determinant of artwork 8. Preparation of conditions for material exploration and experiments with art techniques 9. Forms of exploring art techniques and material exploration (for example using the principle of participation in art; gesture and movement in art creation; experiments with colour and colour exaggeration; perception of reality and exploration of its influence on the process of creation; exploration of the relationship of figure and background in a picture; a playful interpretation of an image arising in time and space; accumulation of material and work with variations of reliefs and structures) 10. Reflection of the influence of exploring art techniques on developing authentic art expression 11. Reflection of realized art experiments in relation to contemporary art 12. Ways of presenting the results material exploration and experiments with art techniques 13. Didactic aspects of material exploration and exploring art techniques

to clarify some artistic concepts in history of art or in contemporary art with the aid of concrete examples of artworks;
to characterize and distinguish various properties of different materials.

to analyse, to interpret and to critically evaluate their own artwork.

to experiment with techniques of drawing and painting as means of art expression;
to design their own experiments with art techniques;
