Lectures 1. Introduction to the subject. An overview of the history of microbiology. Principles of laboratory animal care. 2. Pathogenic mechanisms, infection process, virulence factors. 3. Morphology of the bacterial cell. 4. Use of antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents in microbiology. Antimicrobial preparations. 5. Bacterial taxonomy - explanation of the concept. The importance of bacteria and viruses in the development of diseases. 6. Infectious diseases - prevention and prophylaxis. 7. - 8. Anti-infective immunity - clinical implications in the treatment of infectious diseases. 9. Microflora in the human body - meaning, localization. 10. Virology - prions. 11. Mycology - basic knowledge. 12. Parasitology - basic knowledge. 13. Sepsis from the point of view of microbiology. 14. Perinatal infections from the point of view of microbiology. 15. Resistance of microorganisms. A Lab exercise 1. Principles of occupational safety and health protection when working in a microbiological laboratory. Occupational and laboratory infections. 2. Sterilization and disinfection in microbiology. 3. Microbiological laboratory equipment. 4. Reproduction in laboratory conditions - cultivation soils, tissue cultures, chicken embryos, experimental animals. 5. Collection and transport of biological samples to the microbiological laboratory. 6. Methods of species identification of microorganisms - light microscopy, cultivation, biochemical, immunological and molecular methods. 7. Theoretical foundations of staining and microscopic examination. 8. Gram+, gram- cocci, gram- rods. 9. Gram+ rods, anaerobic bacteria. 10. Acid-resistant rods, spirochetes. 11. Mycoplasma, chlamydia, rickettsia. 12. Sexually transmitted infections. 13. DNA viruses. 14. RNA viruses. 15. Credit test.
