Course content
Lectures 1. Introduction to psychosomatics - definition and history of psychosomatics, the importance of psychosomatic approaches in medicine, basic terms and concepts 2. Biopsychosocial model of health - interaction between biological, psychological and social factors, examples of application of the model in practice, criticism and limitations of the model 3. Stress and its effect on health - definition and types of stress, physiological and psychological reactions to stress, long-term consequences of stress on health 4. Psychosomatic disorders - classification and examples of psychosomatic disorders, diagnostic methods, case studies 5. The role of emotions in psychosomatics - the influence of emotions on physical health, mechanisms of connection between emotions and physical symptoms, emotional regulation and its importance 6. Psychoneuroimmunology - the relationship between the nervous, immune and endocrine systems, the influence of psychological factors on the immune response, research and clinical applications 7. Psychosomatics in clinical practice - diagnosis and treatment of psychosomatic diseases, interdisciplinary approach, case studies and practical examples 8. Psychotherapeutic approaches in psychosomatics - cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and relaxation techniques 9. The role of lifestyle and prevention - the importance of a healthy lifestyle, prevention of psychosomatic diseases, patient education 10. The future of psychosomatics - new research and trends, integration of psychosomatics into health care, challenges and perspectives Exercises 1. Bio-psycho-social approach in health and illness and practical medicine, bio-psycho-social anamnesis (timeline) 2. Psychosomatics in the family - patient and family - family cycle, childhood and adolescence 3. Psychosomatics in clinical fields - internal medicine (pulmonary, cardiology, gastroenterology) 4. Psychosomatics in clinical fields - dermatology, ENT, gynecology 5. Locomotor system in bio-psycho-social context. 6. Psychosomatics in oncology. 7. Accompanying - chronic patient, elderly patient, dying patient, death 8. Relaxation techniques, overview of psychotherapeutic methods, possibilities, indications 9. Psychosomatics of the health worker and burnout syndrome. 10. Ethics, supervision, Balint group
