Course content
1. information about the course, needs analysis of doctoral students 2. overview of verb tenses, their use active and passive voice in academic English university studies,vocabulary and phrases 3. verb formation with prefixes and suffixes verbs do, make, take, say, tell, speak, talk, give presenting the University of West Bohemia 4. count and uncount nouns, noun formation, noun patterns in academic English listening to a lecture 5. adjectives formed with prefixes and suffixes, adjective patterns, position of adjectives, slides, graphs, tables, diagrams, vocabulary 6. agreement, rules, exceptions to the rules types of graphic representation and useful phrases as part of academic writing 7. clauses of contrast, concession and comparison čtení a reprodukce odborného textu 8. clauses of purpose, cause and effect vague language 9. conditional and time clauses paraphrasing summarizing a short text 10. relative clauses summarizing a short text 11.prepositions and prepositional phrases hedging in academic English, communication strategies 12. credit test 13. final assessment, credit

-recognize situations for the use of past simple and past continuous
-identify forms of present perfect simple and continuous
-identify situations for the use of past simple as opposed to present perfect
-identify forms of past perfect simple and continuous
-name various wasy of expressing the future
-recognize modal verbs for the present, the past and the future
-recognize forms of the 1st., 2nd and 3rd type of conditional clauses
-identify forms of relative pronouns and clauses
-recognize verbs using an -ing form and verbs using an infinitive form
-identify phrasal verbs used at B2 level of CEFR
-recognize forms of passive voice of all verb tenses
-name verbs used in indirect speech
-recognize direct and indirect questions
-make use of the language skills used at B2 level of CEFR
