Course content
Week 1 Introductory class. Presentation of the course, familiarization with the curriculum and requirements for completing the course. Scientific style - basic characteristics, language patterns. Text work. Week 2 Rhetorical style: presentation. Rules and methods of presentation, its form and content. Week 3 Numbers and units. Declension of the counted subject. Week 4 Working with numbers, percentages, decimal numbers, chart and graph description. Week 5 Definition and its use. Relative clauses. Week 6 Terms and declension of words of foreign origin. Week 7 Pronunciation of international words. Midterm test. Week 8 Declension of words of foreign origin - revision and other phenomena. Week 9 Abbreviations and acronyms. Week 10 Work with scientific text, selected syntactic problems. Week 11 Scientific literature, university library and internet resources. Text formatting. Week 12 Revision. Final test. Week 13 Test correction. Evaluation.

- name the principles for the preparation and presentation of a paper, and identify the most common errors - name basic rules for writing essays and identify the most common errors - name the basic academic degrees and functions and distinguish their forms in the vocative case - name various components of a university, identify their abbreviations - identify the most common abbreviations and acronyms - identify the basic forms of cardinal, ordinal and generic numerals - identify the basic terms related to the organization of university studies - identify the basic terms used in study regulations

- prepare and present a paper on a well-known topic - write a request, an apology - correctly address the members of the academic community - correctly use abbreviations and acronyms - use all forms of numerals - search for, summarize and analyse information obtained by listening to a simple text related to student's life - search for, summarize and analyse information obtained from a text related to university studies (description of the university and its components, organization of studies, organization of courses and conditions for their fulfilment, study regulations, etc.)
