Course content

1. Anatomy and morphology of plants - plant cell structure 2. Anatomy and morphoplogy of plants - basic types of plant tissues. 3. Anatomy and morphology of roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. 4. Metamorphoses and ecological adaptations of plant organs to stress. 5. Basic physiological processes of plants. Photosynthesis type C3, C4 and CAM, their advantages and disadvantages. 6. Respiration of plant cells. The main stock of plants. Physiological adaptations to environmental conditions and stress. 7. Ecology of the individual. How to define individuals (geneta vs. rameta). Life forms and strategies of plants. 8. Basic ecological interactions. Parasitism, predation, competition (intraspecific vs. interspecific), symbiosis, commensalism. 9. Communities - natural and artificial biocenoses, community characteristics, succession, theory of island biogeography, invasive species. 10. Population ecology. Definitions and types of populations. Ecological niche (theoretical vs. realized). Indicators of environmental conditions (Ellenberg indication values, saprobic indices and others) and their use in practice. Prediction of population development (how to calculate the magic number r), the carrying capacity of the environment. 11. Ecosystems - biosphere, natural and artificial ecosystems, biomes, biogeographical areas. 12. Selected plant communities in the Czech Republic. 13. Environmental protection - protection of biodiversity, protected areas, biosphere reserves
