Course content
Introduction to Cultural Studies, definitions of "Britishness", history, politics, royalty in Britain, post-war British society, the Falkland Islands, Scotland, Wales, the Irish Question, class and regional identity.

Students will - understand the concept of British national identity and its significance in modern Britain - recognise the importance of traditional symbols and regional identity and how this is reflected in literature (e.g. works by Tony Harrison, Herbert Williams and Gerry Adams).
