Course content
1 Basic morphological terminology 2 English nouns: -semantic characteristics; -grammatical characteristics: categories of number, countability, reference, gender, case 3 Pronouns: - individual types and their characteristics: personal, possessive, reflexive, demonstrative, relative 4 Universal, existential and negative quantifiers: - grammatical qualities; - use 5 Adjectives and adverbs: - semantic characteristics; - grammatical characteristics 6 Verbs: - semantic-grammatical characteristics of verbs; - primary verbs; - finite vs non-finite verb phrases 7 Modal verbs: - grammatical qualities and differences from full verbs; - individual modal verbs as the means of the expression of intrinsic modality; 8 Classification of English verbs: - formal; - syntactic-semantic (full vs linking verbs); - telic vs atelic predications 9 Temporal system of a finite verb phrase: - relation between tense and aspect 10 Verbal voice: - active; - passive 11 Non-finite verb forms (infinitive, participles, gerund): - morphological qualities; - non-finite verb forms as parts of verb phrases 12 Non-inflected word classes: - prepositions; - conjunctions; - particles

-Students are able to: - provide the characteristics of individual inflected word classes of English; - use a comparative point of view in the determination of individual word classes of English; - demonstrate their theoretical knowledge of morphology and make use of it in their language performance
- znát klasifikaci morfémů

- provést morfologickou analýzu anglického textu
- v rámci jednotlivých slovních druhů zvolit vhodnou formu pro vyjádření daného gramatického významu, především u sloves a substantiv
