Course content
Basic topics: 1. Pre-Romanesque building manifestation 1: Settlement units (towns/ castles) and buildings (houses, palaces, churches) and their problems in the study of Great Moravia (overlapping to the Slovak Republic). 2. Pre-Romanesque building manifestation 2: Settlement units (towns/ castles) and buildings (houses, palaces, churches) on the territory of Bohemia during the Carolingian and Ottonian Renaissance. 3. Romanesque building manifestation 1: Romanesque villages, their dwellings and sacral buildings. 4. Romanesque building manifestation 2: Romanesque castles (hillforts) and their transformation into castles of the High Middle Ages. 5. Romanesque building manifestation 3: Prague in the Romanesque era and its Romanesque buildings. 6. Buildings of the Romanesque-Gothic horizon: The coming changes in the Romanesque style, their manifestation on church and castle architecture. 7. Gothic building manifestation 1: Village, town and monastery settlement units. 8. Gothic building manifestation 2: Castle settlement units in the Gothic style and problems of their typology. 9. Gothic building expression 3: Village and town house, layout types and their development. 10. Gothic building expression 4: Monasteries and churches, their forms and development. 11. Gothic building expression 5: Building materials, structures and manifestations of Gothic building. 12. The end of Gothic and the first manifestations of the Renaissance: Town, village and castle, their development and transformation.
