Course content
1. Metal artefacts in the late Paleolithic era 1.1. Bronze archaeometalurgy and its processing technology. 1.2. Bronze artefacts - classification, typology and interpretation. 1.3. Bronze depots. 1.5. Beginnings of iron production in the Hallstatt and La Téne period 1.6. Non-ferrous metal artefacts in the Hallstadt and La Téne period 1.7. Iron artefacts in the Roman era 1.8. Non-ferrous metal artefacts in the Roman era 2. Metal artefacts in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era 2.1. Archaeometalurgy of iron and non-ferrous metals in the early and high Middle Ages and their manifestations in archaeological records. 2.2. Processing iron in blacksmithing and jewelry in the early and high Middle Ages. 2.3. Methods of description of medieval and early modern iron and non-ferrous artefacts, terminology. 2.4. Builders hardware - typology and functional classification. 2.5. Craftsman and agricultural tools - typology and functional classification. 2.6. Equipment for horse riding and components of means of transportation - typology and functional classification. 2.7. Mobiliary, household equipment, personal items - typology and functional classification. 2.8. Militaria 2.9. Means of recording and conserving bronze, iron and colored metals. 3. Field trip with a possibility of the archaeological study of metal artefacts from the modern era.
