Lectures 1. Epidemiology - definition, goal. Characteristics of the epidemic process and its form. Indicators of the epidemic process. Epidemiological measures. Epidemiological method of work. Definition and objectives of epidemiological surveillance. 2. Decontamination - disinfection (methods and control), sterilization (pre-sterilization preparation, methods and control of sterilization). Epidemiology of infectious diseases - Process of spread of infection (source, routes of transmission, susceptible individual). Vaccination and immunization. Vaccination system in the Czech Republic, types of vaccines. 3. Alimentary and respiratory infections - epidemiology, prevention. 4. Sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS - epidemiology, prevention. 5. Blood-borne infections, viral hepatitis, transmissible infections - epidemiology, prevention. Basics of travel medicine. 6. Anthropozoonosis, infections of the skin and superficial mucous membranes - epidemiology, prevention. 7. Epidemiology of disappearing diseases (measles; mumps, epidemic parotitis; rubella and congenital rubella syndrome; polio; diphtheria). Epidemiology of new and returning infections. 8. Activities of individual departments of regional hygiene stations (anti-epidemic, environmental hygiene, hygiene of food and items of common use, hygiene of children and adolescents and hygiene of work). State health supervision in the Czech Republic. Authorities for the protection of public health. 9. Hygienic requirements for the operation of medical facilities, operating regulations. Safety and health protection when working in the laboratory. Healthcare-associated infections. 10. Hospital epidemiology - content of the field, methodological foundations, legislative framework. Standard and increased measures for reducing the risk of transmission of infection in a medical facility (hand hygiene, protective equipment, types of isolation). Survival of healthcare-associated infections (definition, incidence and prevalence studies). 11. Non-infectious epidemiology - epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, addictions, allergies and injuries.
