Course content
|
Lectures: 1.Clinical biochemistry and its position among other laboratory branches. Clinical biochemistry in the Czech republic. 2. - 3. Preanalytic effect on results of laboratory investigation. 4. - 6. Analytic features of laboratory method. Accuracy, analytical sensitivity and specificity. Quality control of laboratory investigation. Features of laboratory methods from a clinical aspect. Diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, the relationship between diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, other indicators of clinical assessment of laboratory tests. Reference values of laboratory tests. Definition, basic concepts, methods of determination of the reference range, comparative method between measured values and reference values. 7. - 9. Internal environment. Metabolism of water, sodium, potassium and chloride. Osmolality. Metabolism of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Acid-base balance and its disorders, blood gases. 10. - 11. Basic function of kidneys and their disorders, glomerular filtration, tubular function. Non-protein nitrogenous compounds - urea, creatinine, uric acid, ammonia, amino acids. Replacement of renal function and role of a laboratory in this procedure. 12. Plasma proteins. The importance of plasma proteins, single plasma proteins. Immunochemical methods: basic concepts, reactions in gels, and immunotrurbidimetry-nephelometry, methods using a brand. 13.Cardiovascular system. Risk factors for development of atherosclerosis. Laboratory diagnosis of myocardial infarction and heart failure. Practicals: 1. - 2. Basic calculations in a clinical laboratory. Concentration of solutions, pH, buffers. 3. - 4. Qualitative and quantitative urinalysis. 5. - 6. Disorders of glucose metabolism, diabetes mellitus. 7. - 8. Minerals and osmolality in the serum and in the urine, trace elements. 9. - 10. Serum proteins. 11. - 12. Lipids and lipoproteins in the serum, lipid metabolism disorders, atherosclerosis and its complications. 13. Credit written exam.
