Course content
|
Lectures 1. Introduction to the study of the subject, terminology. The effect of extreme stress on the psyche of an individual. 2. Crowds and mass behavior, panic caused by emergencies and crisis situations. Empathy and prosocial behavior as important psychological variables in the work of a paramedic. Specifics of working with people in emergencies and crisis situations. Crisis communication. 3. Crisis intervention in the event of emergencies and crisis situations (victim assistance system and prevention of permanent psychological consequences). Prevention of stress reactions (reactions to severe stress and adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc.). Specific approach to emergency victims with more injured and killed. 4. Specifics of the approach to mentally disturbed individuals, individuals under the influence of the crisis and individuals with a psychiatric diagnosis. Issues of coping with aggression and aggressive behavior. 5. Suicidal behavior. Crisis intervention and the use of crisis communication in demonstrating suicide intent. 6. The image of death. Crisis intervention within the acceptance of the infamous health forecast. Crisis intervention for survivors. Survivors' advice. 7. Problems of victimization. Crisis intervention for victims of violent crime. Violence victim assistance system. Stockholm syndrome. Learned helplessness syndrome. 8. Specific approach to a mentally disturbed child. Child and crisis. A child as a victim. 9. The system of providing post-traumatic, interventional and psychosocial assistance for individual components of the integrated rescue system. Demobilization, defusing and debriefing. Posttraumatic growth. 10. Coping with feelings of failure and guilt. Prevention of burnout syndrome and helper syndrome. Practicals 1 - 2. Model situations used to practice coping with crowd behavior and panic. Training of individual crisis communication techniques. 3 - 4. Presentation of PowerPoint presentations of students in connection with the already discussed issues within the lectures - part 1. Analysis of individual presentations, including the active involvement of all students in the discussion. 5 - 6. Model situations related to de-escalation of aggressive behavior. Training in approaching individuals in managing the impact of emergencies and crisis situations on the victim's psyche. 7 - 8. Model situations related to access to victims of violence (eg domestic violence, crimes, etc.), including access to child victims. 9 - 10. Presentation of PowerPoint presentations of students in connection with the already discussed issues in lectures - part 2. Analysis of individual presentations, including the active involvement of all students in the discussion. Final repetition. Examination of questions for the exam.
