Course content
|
Multicultural situation in Czech countries. Old German literature and cultures in Czech countries. Birth of German and Czech nationalism. Situation of German and German-Jewish ethnics in Czech countries. Prague German literature and culture vs. literature and culture in Sudetenland. Prague German cultural enclave and Czech culture. Prague German culture in European context. Other centers of German culture in Czech Republic. Moravian authors writing in German and culture of Moravian Germans. Silesian as an important multicultural region and culture of Silesian Germans. German-Jewish and Czech-Jewish authors in Czech countries: confrontation of different cultural contexts.

Students will learn to recognize specifics of regions of German speaking area in the Czech Republic, they will be also introduced to problems of Czech-German relations. Students will understand basic features of changes in German culture in the Czech Republic with emphasis put on relations to Czech surroundings. |
