Course content
Styles of language and their typical features. Common translational methods. Terminology, translation of terms. Equivalence - differences in form and meaning. Translation of realia, translation of explicit and implicit information. Translation of texts from the field of business and economy, legal texts, translation of advertising and headlines.

  • Preparation for formative assessments (2-20) - 20 hours per semester
  • Contact hours - 26 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 32 hours per semester

to describe functional styles;
to characterize the main translation methods;
to define dictionary types;
to show the knowledge of equivalence on the grammatical, lexical and text level.

to use specialized knowlede at B2 level according to CEFR
to summarize the content of written English text and identify its main ideas
to carry out an analysis of the source text;
to apply adequately the knowledge of translation methods;
to work with bilingual and monolngual dictionaries;
to translate selected passages of English texts into the Czech language.

Knowledge
to use English at a B2+ level according to CEFR;

characterize the basic translation procedures;
demonstrate knowledge of translation terms;
characterize equivalence in terms of formal and semantic differences;
to be familiar with the possibilities of translating professional terminology and realia.

to demonstrate an extension and deepening of the level of language skills attained, i.e. B2+ according to the CEFR, on various types of tasks;
adequately apply knowledge of translation procedures;
to work with both bilingual and monolingual dictionaries
převést výchozí text z oblasti obchodní, ekonomické a právní do cílového jazyka bez výraznějšího posunu významu;
to elaborate a glossary;
to translate subtitles and adverts into the target language
independently prepare a seminar paper according to the given criteria.
