Course content
Definition and delimitation of islands. Diversity of the island environment. Geographic location of the islands. Formation of islands with a focus on the Canary Islands and Iceland. Climatic conditions of islands. Climatic specifics of Iceland Hydrology. Hydrological specifics of Iceland. Biogeography of islands. Biogeography of Macaronesia. Orobiomes. Natural hazards on islands. Volcanoes of Iceland. Geopolitical importance of islands. Chosen issues of Oceania and Iceland. Population of islands. Demographic specifics of the Philippines and Cape Verde. Economy and its potential. Iceland´s economy. Traffic specifics of islands focused on the Canary Islands and Madeire. Tourism on islands. Selected examples (Canary Islands, Madeire, Cape Verde). Sustainable development of islands. Nauru, Tenerife.

to be able to describe the theory of island biogeography and physical-geographical specifics of islands: climatic conditions, hydrology, typology of coasts, orobiomes
to explain socio-economic specifics of islands through these issues: population and settlements, resource exploitation, transport, tourism and economy
