Course content
1. Introduction to the topic, inserting the font character in broad context. 2. Developments in Latin typefaces up to the invention of printing. Handwritten font, inspiration for the present. Work with manuscripts and its interpretation. 3. Analysis of actual book designs. Differences in approach. Font skeleton - realization. 4. Script in public space. 5. Typography of Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism. Own study of shape differences. 6. Typography of the 19th century and early 20th century. 7. Modernism of the 20th century. "Elementary typography" and its influence on the present, compositional exercises. 8. Linear non-serif font. Classification of fonts. Studies of details of font characters. 9. Font classification in practice. The 1950s to the 1980s in typography. 10. Working with mirror, mirror reconstruction of contemporary journal work. Measurement system. 11. Prominent personalities of Czech typography. 12. Typography in the digital age - information and visual aspects. 13. Explicit examples together with analysis, comparison and reflection about own materials from practice.

to compare and analyze different artistic expressions by criteria of esthetics, semiotics and technique on basic level , to specify basic knowledge of supporting arts disciplines , to know basic usage of characters and their form,

to realize own vizual expression in suitable way including its text part, to show own creativity on generally assigned task, to show the will to find different artistic solutions, alter them and constructivelly evaluate, to work independently and activelly and flexibly react to evaluating commentary of the teacher,

of drawing principles of characters, of historical contexts of historical evolution on Roman lyrics and Roman typefaces and alication of this classification, of important czech and international typographs,

to analyze current books and find inspiration for their individual projects to apply the acquired knowledge in, above all, illustration, graphic design and book culture, to define unprofessional treatment of the character, work with a text according to typographic rules of setting to create a mirror of the setting of books and magazines, depending on the assignment,
