Course content
1. Czech Reformation of the 15th century and the rise of the Unity of Brethren 2. Unity of Brethren in the changes of the 16th century between Lutheranism and Calvinism 3. Comenius youth and education in the cultured environment of his native Moravia 4. Comenius international studies and the influence of Western European Reformation 5. Period and Protestant Chiliasm and Irenicism 6. Comenius activities and his return to the Czech lands before the battle of White Mountain 7.Persecution after the battle of White Mountain - consolatory documents, foreign activities 8.Emigration and activities in Leszno - the beginnings of remedial projects 9. Questions of relevance and eschatology in the work of Comenius 10. Invitation to England and the London residence 11. In Swedish service and in Transylvania 12. Amsterdam - the last shelter 13. Development and changes of the works of Comenius and the latest historiography and Comeniology

Knowledge
Students should have basic orientation of the Czech and early modern European history with regard to the history of the Reformation and religious issues.
learning outcomes
Students can explain the basic characteristics of the Czech Reformation and the European reformation, as well as they are able to conclude Comenius?s place in their development. They are eligible to analyze the theological, educational and pan sophistic works of Comenius. On specific examples, students can illustrate the principles of Comenius Education and its links with reformatory effort.
