Course content
1. Overseas discoveries and the beginnings of European colonialism 2. Absolutism vs. State of Estates. 3. Extension of the Renaissance, Mannerism, and Humanism. 4. Split of Western Christianity (Reformation). 5. Dutch miracle. 6. Islam, the Turks and Europe. 7. The Thirty Years War. 8. The so-called scientific and intellectual revolution in the 16th and 17 century. 9. Comenius way out of the Labyrinth: General Consultation on Reform of Human Affairs

Knowledge
The basic orientation in English and Early Modern European history is fundamental.
learning outcomes
The student can explain selected problems of Modern European History, place them in the context of social, political, economic and cultural connections. Student is able to explain in detail the studied events. Student is eligible to establish the basic trends in Modern History, as well as he/she can generalize and apply gained knowledge and can be familiar with both Czech and foreign essential literature of Modern Europe.
